SPEAKING OF DAD AND FISHING...
Do any of you remember when Daddy was insistant
that there was a bear in the back of Catfish Lake?
He swore he heard it every day and that
bear was taunting him.
Mom would ask him not to go fishing and
he'd say, "MInta, I'm going to keep going until I find that
da#* bear!!!!
Do ya'll think he was just pulling my leg or do
you really think there was a bear back there?
Often when I am going to sleep at night I remember
this and sometimes dream of a big black bear
bigger than Dad's boat.
I know it's true, cause he told me the story about when he finally did see that Black Bear. Of course, this was probably one of his biggest fishing stories. He said he stopped to fish at one of the damms he usually stops at. (By the way C, if you remember, its where you fell in at when you went to cast your fishing line once. LOL, LOL, LOL!!!) Dad said he could hear something rustling in the marsh and trees behind him. Then he said "good thing I had docked the boat near the damm instead of near the land because that da#** bear appeared and started towards me like lightning." Dad said he didn't even real in his line, he just jumped in the boat, started the motor and hauled butt (A#*). When he looked back, he could see the hugh bear right at the waters' edge roaring louder than the engine was running. I don't think he ever went back to that da#* damm. Don't you remember him telling us that story Lil??????

MUST HAVE BEEN AFTER I WAS GONE BECAUSE I DON'T REMEMBER THE BEAR STORY. I DO REMEMBER WHILE WE WERE LIVING IN HOUMA HE WOULD CALL AND ASK WHEN I WAS GOING TO BRING THE GIRLS OVER. EVEN AFTER ALL THESE YEARS I CAN STILL HEAR THE SOUND OF HIS VOICE. I ALSO REMEMBER HIS WORDS ON MY WEDDING DAY HE PUT UP A BLACK BACKGROUND AT THE HOUSE AND TOOK ALL KINDS OF PICTURES AND WHEN HE WAS FINISHED HE CAME TO ME AND SAID "WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BRIDE YOU ARE". THAT WAS SOMETHING DAD NEVER DID BUT I WILL CHERISH THAT MOMENT FOREVER.

I think the black bear story was to make people think about the bear instead of how few fish he caught that day. If he didn't catch at least an ice chest of fish he told the bear story.(LOL)
ReplyDeleteBut to be serious for a moment,there has been siteings of bears doen the baya.Especially around LaRose.Could be true.

WELL, WE RECIENTLY STUDIED THAT LOUISIANA'S STATE BEAR IS -- THE BLACK BEAR!!! SO WE MUST HAVE SOME HERE IN SOUTH LOUISIANA. I GUESS HIS STORY IS TRUE!!

ReplyDeleteI too often hear his voice, and sometimes I cry because he could not see me on my wedding day and dance with me like he always promised. I can still hear his voice sometime telling us, "Here is a quarter for you to go to the bakery and get you something, and another one to buy me a donut!" Hey Lil you would remember that -- you swallowed one of those quarters!!!

No, I don't remember anything about a black bear..he probably figured..."I'll just give her some of those Dufrene's chocolate chip cookies and hope they last her the whole trip so she can stay out of trouble!!" LOL..
ReplyDeleteI do remember Lil swallowing a quarter and Mom making her take a bath and change her underwear before they took her to the hospital!!! That's Mom...As long as you have a clean underwear, you can do ANYTHING!!! Oh, sweet success, sweet clean underwear..
