Day one dog sledding

Our first full day in Alaska was spent touring
the small quaint town of Talkeetna and going
on a dog sled tour.
We really wanted to try and fly into the mountains that day
but the weather wasn't the greatest so we held out
for a better day so we could land on a glacier.
Jesi found this dog sledding excursion for us and when
we first drove up we kind of laughed for the fact that
it looked like some two-bit homestead for stray dogs.
Loved the outhouse though, moon and all.
Part of the tour let us play with baby sledding dogs,
Made HOBL miss his own baby pups.
That man loves him some puppies, like his momma that way.
Kd and baby girl really wanted to take them home,
matter of fact, Kd had to bond with every dog we saw all week.
I love me some baby girl, especially when she shows those
deep, beautiful dimples.
When you see the dimples, you know she is really happy.
I saw dimples a lot this week.
Even baby boy loves him some puppies, how can you not?
It took 10 dogs to pull our family through their training course.
Whether people stop for tours or not, these dogs have to stay in training
even if there is no snow so we actually did the owner a favor
by stopping by so he could run his dogs.
This man owns 41 sledding dogs.
Some have been in the great races of Alaska's biggest
dog sled races.
These dogs live to run.
When the owner started strapping the dogs in,
they cried as if begging to be chosen to run the tract.
They are trained to follow direction and
pulled us 9 MPH through the paths in the woods.
This is the cart used for training and pulling customers through
the woods.
Dogs lined up and ready to go. They were all so excited
to pull us through. The history of the dogs was really interesting.
Like did you know that all racing dogs are really mutts
that are trained to run in the snow?
I did not know that.
In the town of Talkeetna there is much shopping to do.
Just a quaint little town with small shops with unique things
to buy that mostly are hand made by the people of Alaska.
The boys weren't very impressed with the shopping part
but they went along.
baby girl kissed a moose...
wonder how bruddah's going to feel about that?
And baby boy licked a moose, because if you know baby boy
he always has to be different.
I loved watching Kd and baby boy together.
It is so obvious how much they not only love each other
but enjoy each others company.
This is also the day we found Pandemonium, our
very favorite coffee shop/bookstore.
HOBL had to check his internet every day and here
we could also have a cup of Java, desserts, and a bookstore.
It became one of our favorite places to hang out.
Outside of Pandemonium was this fish and all of us had
to take pictures here.
HOBL was feeling a little frisky here,
believe me he did not have his hands over my heart.
Day one had a few little disagreements
(okay first argument)
but after we put that aside,
a wonderful day even though it was cold and drizzly,
those dog sled things were pretty cool.
Day two, tomorrow, halibut fishing....
stay tuned....

  1. Jes should paint Kd and Rod's portrait with the mountain backdrop. And then she should paint your picture witht he mutts..... just my suggestion. Then if she's really feeling it, she should paint Nonc Rod with the puppy.
