Where everybody knows her name

I am happy to say that the other Mumsie is home
at her beloved manor where she loves to be.
She did land up spending an extra day in the hospital
and was not happy about that,
as she said,
"I missed my bingo game in this place"
"I never heard of a place that doesn't serve milk with supper"
and my favorite,
"They don't serve wine in this hospital!"
You see, every evening, at 5PM, the manor
has her glass of wine waiting for her in the dining room
and she sits, talking to her friends, waiting for her
supper to be served at 5:30pm.
I swear, it is like living in a hotel.
She has not only adjusted in the last 4 years to
St. Joseph's Manor but has molded her
elderly life around all that it provides for her.
It makes all of us siblings so happy to see her there.
Has us able to do all we need to do in our own lives
without having to worry one minute about our Mother.
We will always be grateful for all they do for her.
the old jingle from the old sitcom, Cheers
is what I think of when Mumsie returns to the Manor.
"MAKING YOUR WAY IN THE WORLD TODAY
TAKES EVERYTHING YOU GOT
TAKING A BREAK FROM ALL YOUR WORRIES
SURE WOULD HELP A LOT
WOULDN'T YOU LIKE TO GET AWAY?
WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME
AND THEY'RE ALWAYS GLAD YOU CAME
YOU WANNA BE WHERE YOU CAN SEE
OUR TROUBLES ARE ALL THE SAME
YOU WANNA BE WHERE EVERYBODY
KNOWS YOUR NAME"
I know Mumsie being there has added years to her life.
I sleep comfortably at night knowing that if she
needs anything, they are up all night and will call me
with anything she may need.
They have all become part of our family.
Myself and my siblings will always be indebted
to the wonderful assisted living facility known as
ST. JOSEPH MANOR

  2. Lilly-

I have a friend who just retired January of this year from out here at the plant. Her Mother was living with her until she suffered a stroke and it affected her 'good' eye. Alice placed Hun in an assisted living home (a new one) in Gonzales and Hun loves it, just as Ms. Minta does hers. Hun still gets her wine, since the stroke she has cut out the 'hard' stuff. But as every elderly Catholic woman I know, still has her daily glass of wine. Alice is so thankful for the staff at Magnolia for taking such great care for Hun. Alice organizes BBQ's, etc for the great folks over there. Hun has inspired people at the facility! She just turned 95 this past Sunday and going strong. I am blessed that Hun prays for my health daily. I love having all these strong Catholic women on my side. Speaking of, I need to make another visit to Sister Dulce. It's been far too long. This just goes to show that there are still, even in this very tough economy, fabulous, upstanding assisted living facilities where you do not have to worry about the well-being of a loved one.

    Hugs and Kisses!
